The River Thames is the second longest river in the United Kingdom and the longest river entirely in England. The river starts at Thames Head in Gloucestershire and flows into the North Sea at the Thames Estuary.
The Thames has been a major water highway through England including the Port of London for thousands of years (International and general trade, Transport for goods and people along its length) by connecting to the British canal system.
Today the tourist industry play a big part in the transport and usage of the river, entertaining and explaining its history and showing the beauty along its banks.
The actual length of the River Thames is 346km (215 miles).
